Sandalwood and Coconut Oil For Split Ends

Sandalwood essential oil for Split Ends

Sandalwood and Coconut Oil to prevent Split Ends and grow your Hair Long.

Natural Sandalwood

Sometimes growing long hair means caring for your strands from ends to root. Sandalwood essential oil has become one of my favorite oils to protect my ends from splitting. Fewer damaged ends means less trims and longer hair.

The ends of our hair tend to be more brittle than the rest of the hair strand. Since the ends are the oldest part of the hair, they need more TLC.

If you have naturally curly hair, you probably experience extreme dryness. It’s more difficult for the oil produced from the sebaceous glands to travel down the path of curlier hair.

Shoulder length and longer hair rubs against clothes, coats, scarves, etc. on a daily basis. Even the seat belt in my car attempts to take a few hair strands captive. 🙂

To prevent split ends and condition damaged hair I start with Sandalwood essential oil. Sandalwood oil is anti-bacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory.

It softens the hair, adds shine and will decrease split ends. Sandalwood is also great for scarred or dry skin.

Coconut oil also has hair strengthening properties. It is a natural hair conditioner and compliments sandalwood essential oil well. Not only does it smooth and heal damaged hair, but the fragrance of sandalwood and coconut is amazing!

There are products on the market that hide the appearance of split ends. But the ugly truth still remains. The hair is splitting and there is really only one way to fix it.

If you’re like me and want to grow your hair long, the last piece of advice you want is to cut your hair. But even worse is to ignore the problem and allow the splitting to continue up the hair shaft. This will make your entire hair strand weak.

But once you get the trim and remove damaged ends, your hair will look and be so much healthier!

So where do you go from there? You endured the not so fatal cut and your split end dilemma is over. Now allow me to recommend the following sandalwood and coconut oil hair treatment!

Sandalwood and Coconut Oil Blend For Split Ends

  • 1 ounce – Coconut Oil (Conditions and strengthens hair)
  • 10 drops – Sandalwood Essential Oil (Softens and prevents split ends)

This simple blend is all you need to start! You can mix as much or as little of the oil blend as you like.

Use a dropper or your fingers to apply it to the ends of your hair. Of course there are additional oils you can add to your blend! These oils are wonderful for preventing split ends too.

  • Jojoba Oil to seal in moisture
  • Argan Oil to soften hair
  • Geranium Essential Oil to strengthen hair

I purchase small plastic storage containers like my red container pictured here. You can find them at Wal-Mart. You can also reuse an empty plastic or glass container.

As far as measurements are concerned, it’s hard to go wrong. Favoring the coconut oil, I add coconut oil, jojoba oil and argan oil to my container until it is filled just below the brim.

Then I add 10 to 12 drops of sandalwood essential oil. For good measure, I add 5 to 7 drops of geranium essential oil.

The fragrance of the sandalwood is dominant and spells oh so good. The scent is calming, woody and sweet.

How to use Sandalwood and Coconut Oil Blend For Split Ends

There are several ways to use this treatment.

  1. Apply oil to the ends of dry hair
  2. Apply a liberal amount of oil blend to the ends of hair before washing
  3. Apply a liberal amount of oil blends to the ends of hair, leave on overnight, wash in morning
  4. Apply oil to the ends of wet hair, dry and style as desired

Additional tips for preventing split ends.

  1. Use direct heat (flat ironing, blow outs, etc) as sparingly as possible
  2. Be gentle when manipulating your hair with a comb or brush. Detangle with your fingers first.
  3. Add carrier or essential oils to your shampoos and conditioners
  4. Wear low manipulation and protective styles like buns and heatless curls.

  1. I am not too familiar with Sandalwood. I wonder, since it’s an anti-bacterial, antiviral and anti-inflammatory could it be used for dry flaky scalp or wounds too? Guess I need to look into this essential oil. Thanks for the recipe, sounds like a good one to try out.

    1. I’ve read that sandalwood is great for dry scalp. I haven’t tried it myself though. I tend to stick with coconut oil, tea tree and lavender essential oils to control dandruff.

  2. I have recently experienced extremely itchy scalp, which i am working on healing via natural remedies. This has caused slower growth than what i am used. This is great so i can take of overhall hair health
