Do It Yourself Face Scrub featuring Coconut and Tamanu Oils

Finding a facial scrub that meets your skin care needs without breaking the bank can be challenging.

Don’t get me wrong. I love shopping the shelves of Ulta just like the next girl. But I have jars of skin care products that didn’t fulfill its promise or meet my expectations.

This is a huge part of how Coconut Beauty was born. After reading the benefits of natural oils, I decided to tackle my skin care issues on my own.

I have combination skin, an oily t-zone, and I am prone to breakouts. On top of that, the demands of my skin changes from one season to the next.

Four oils that have tremendously changed my skin are grapeseed, coconut, rose hip, and tamanu. Fortunately there are a wide variety of oils that my skin responds well to, but these are the ones I reach for most often.

I can use these oils individually or in combination. Either way, my results are the same… bright, clean, and clear skin. Of course drinking plenty of water and a good nights sleep works wonders too. 🙂

I wanted to share with you my favorite do it yourself facial scrub. To keep this cost-effective, you can select just one or two of your favorite oils. Continue reading for more information about which oils may work best for your skin type.

My Do It Yourself Face Scrub featuring Coconut and Tamanu Oils

Mix together:

3 Tablespoons – Pure Cane Sugar
1 Tablespoon – Tamanu Oil
1/2 Tablespoon – Unrefined Virgin Coconut Oil
1/4 Tablespoon – Rose Hip Oil
1/4 Tablespoon – Grapeseed Oil

You can modify the consistency by adding more oils or more sugar. You can also replace cane sugar with brown sugar.

This oil combination works best for my skin but you can easily replace them for ones most suited for you. Store your face scrub in an air tight container.

Gently exfoliate your skin and rinse with warm water. Just a little scrub goes a long way.

I use this scrub twice a week. In between facial scrubs, I opt for oil cleansing at night. My oils of choice for cleansing are grapeseed, jojoba, and tamanu oil.

The best oils for your skin type…

The consensus around the web varies as to which oils are best suited for you, but here is a general rule of thumb. This is not an exhaustive list, but common oils that you can likely find at your local market.

For Oily Skin: Grapeseed Oil, Jojoba Oil, Safflower Oil, Apricot Oil, and Tea Tree Essential Oil

For Dry Skin: Avocado Oil, Sunflower Oil, Camellia Oil, and Extra Virgin Olive Oil

For Acne Prone Skin: Tamanu Oil, Grapeseed Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Sweet Almond Oil, Walnut Oil, and Tea Tree Essential Oil

For Sensitive Skin: Grapeseed Oil, Apricot Oil, Sunflower Oil, Fractionated Coconut Oil, and Jojoba Oil

For Aging Skin: Rose Hip Oil, Argan Oil, Jojoba Oil, and Tamanu Oil

If you’re like me, you fall into more than one of these categories. But as you can see, there are several oils that work well for various skin types.
