The recipe for my coconut oil facial scrub slightly differs from my Almond and Coconut Oil body scrub. Be sure to check out this body scrub if you haven’t already!
My facial scrub and mask recipes varies depending on what I have on hand in the kitchen. But I never make a facial mask or scrub without coconut oil.
Since my face is sensitive and prone to breakouts, I’ve found that using natural ingredients to cleanse my face is the best way to go. I’ve tried many commercial facial cleansers over the years and many of them either irritates my skin or leaves my face desperately dry.
A well made coconut oil facial scrub is cleansing and moisturizing even for combination skin. My t-zone is extremely oily, the skin around my eyes is dry, and the rest of my face is normal.
Still, my entire face benefits from the combination of coconut oil, lemon, and honey.
You can add and modify this recipe to suit your skin care needs. If your skin is easily irritated or if you have a skin condition you want to be careful not to scrub (or exfoliate) your face too often.
Making a facial mask out of coconut oil, lemon, honey, and essentials oils is just as cleansing.
Coconut Oil Facial Scrub
|Use organic, extra virgin, all natural products for best results.|
The Ingredients You Will Need:
1. Honey – Honey is a natural humectant that is rich in antioxidants. The honey will draw moisture to your skin and keep the moisture locked in. Honey also helps our skin fight against signs of aging.
2. Lemon Juice – The combination of the lemon juice and honey together helps make this scrub beneficial for all skins types, oily to dry. While the honey hydrates the skin, the juice from the lemon removes excess oil from the skin. Lemon juice will leave your skin bright and its healing properties can reduce the appearance of scars.
3. Coconut Oil – Coconut oil was a skin savior for me during dry, cold winters. Last winter I had dry patches around my eyes and coconut oil was the only thing in my skin care stash that gave my skin relief. Coconut oil moisturizes and leave the skin feeling soft. It has anti-fungal properties and fights against signs of aging as well.
4. Brown Sugar – This is an optional ingredient. If you omit the brown sugar and apply the mix of coconut oil, lemon, and honey, you will still have a lovely facial mask. I like to add a bit of brown sugar to get some exfoliating action going. Again if you have skin irritation, keep your routine of exfoliating to a minimum. Exfoliating with brown sugar gives my face a deep clean feeling. I prefer the brown over white sugar or salt, because it feels less harsh on my face. Say good-bye to dry skin!
~ Juice 1/2 of a lemon
~ 1 1/2 tablespoons of honey
~ 1 teaspoon of coconut oil
~ Then stir in about 1 teaspoon of brown sugar.
Make sure all ingredients are well blended before applying to face.
Evenly distribute the scrub on face with fingers and give the skin a gentle massage. I let the scrub sit for a minute or two and rinse with cool water. Rinsing your face with water that is too hot or too cold could be damaging to your skin. Gently pat your face dry and enjoy your beautiful skin!
Your facial scrub is complete! It’s easy, fast, and incredibly inexpensive!
